Do you need a Water Softener if you are on Town Water?
We rarely suggest a water softener for a home on a town water supply because the EF118 HWS provides Premium quality water throughout your entire home.
Whereas...
A water softener removes hardness minerals from your water, replacing them with sodium.
Most softeners require electricity.
Softeners require a drain to backwash.
Softeners must be maintained monthly by adding salt, at 40-50 lbs. per bag. Softeners do not reduce chlorine and chemicals that can give the water an off taste, be breathed in and absorbed through the skin when showering and bathing.
Softeners do not reduce cysts/parasites, fine sediment, and fibers from degrading distribution piping, etc.
Softeners do not reduce corrosion of your pipes and plumbing fixtures.
Although a softener makes the water better to use for doing laundry, somewhat better for your plumbing and somewhat better to shower/bathe in, you would still want to consider adding whole house filters to reduce chlorine, chemicals and corrosion, and a filtration system at your kitchen sink to provide Premium quality water for drinking, cooking, coffee, rinsing vegetables, ice cubes, etc.
If a softener is determined to be the best solution, we have several models to choose from and would be happy to discuss them with you.
The EF118 HWS has several advantages compared to a water softener.
Please see the comparison of the EF118 HWS and a Softener.
